He refused and the man said that he could not go any further due to sercurity risk. Needless to say hubby hung up and blocked the number.

Got a call from this number twice today.. I answered the second time. Woman chatting on about how my pay and you go tariff could be improved if i went to their 12 month direct debit plan. I told her i liked the freedom of payg and didn't want to be tied down to a contract dispute her telling me it would improve my credit score. She said it was a genuine 02 call and even said she would send a verification code tex to me phone. She said shortly after it arrived "is it in your inbox?" and it was, from "02UK" which made me think it was fairly genuine as i had previous texts from 02UK. I told her point blank i wasn't interested and she started chatting on about priority moments and how my 200 minutes could be 500 if i spent an extra £5. I already have unlimited calls.. Derppp.

Pretended to be calling from O2 to check I was happy with the phone service. Somehow he had my name. Guy with a Manchester accent

Requested call back at weekend but said he couldn't as he didn't work weekends. I said O2 customer services must be open weekends but he wasn't calling from customers services.

I will be reporting this to the serious fraud office.

I got a call few months ago from them and the funny thing is I never give my details over the phone. But this time, they managed to pull me into the deal and get my card details. I thought it was all genuine. They said they would upgrade my pay and go tariff for the same price.. But it would be a direct debit scheme. I didn't receive a sim through the post. After a week i went into the O2 store asking if they knew what had happened. They had no connection with what had occurred. I was advised to change my Bank card and was thankful no money had been taken out in the mean time. They did mention it would come out at the end of the month. I had just received my student finance at that time also and was extremely stressed. They have just recently started to ring everyday for the past few days. They surely need to be reported!

Christy from Belfast

Had a call the doll was talking about my O2 tariff and how to upgrade it. I said there was no need as I get unlimited texts, 500mb usage and decent call time per month for a tenner with rewards thrown in by O2. Think she was stumped, wished me a Merry Christmas as I did her and hung up BOOM! Number now BLOCKED.

I came home from school to see that I had a missed call from this number. Luckily for me I have no credit so couldn't call them even if I wanted to. I'm on O2 and given the info shared here I think it's safe to asume that this number is using O2 numbers,
Although what baffles me is,
I've only ever used my number for Facebook.
So how did they get it??
Eh, if they call again I'll know to ignore it and block it

Thanks to all who commented here :)

The government will not help ,neither will the police, because it is revenue to the government when stupid people call back at high rate tarrifs. To see who it is? the way I avoid the wankers is to put my landline on divert to mobile and block them once they call, of course you will get loads doing it always ,that's unstoppable but mobiles give you 1,000 numbers to block , it cost me £3.50 a month for divert as I need it for my business when I am out,but once I get them ,I block and that number keeps trying for a while, and then another comes, block again, and they will keep coming

A guy called me, said he was from 02. Tried to talk to me, I stopped him and told him I wasn't on 02. He said something like, "yes but we have this-" "I'm. Not. On. 02." And he hung up. Clearly a total fraud. Don't fall for it, and if they call you I'd just hang up, or tell them you're on tesco mobile or something.

This number called me afternoon of 23 April but I was busy and did not pick up, glad I didn't. Worrying thing is that over the last few days I've been trying to change over from pay as you go to monthly contract with o2. I had trouble with the o2 website which lodged a red message objecting to non-existent spaces in my first name. So 2 days later so I phoned an adviser (got the 0344 number off 02 website).

After 30 minutes he said he could not get my ID details to match. This alarmed me so much that next day (this morning) I went to an o2 shop in the UK and got the contract fixed up, no problem. Then this afternoon I get this 0161 call. I have only been on o2 website, spoken to o2 telephone advisers and been in an o2 shop- yet these scamsters have got hold of my phone number somehow. o2 have got to take some responsibility here somewhere surely? There's a leak somewhere in their system.

Phoned me and told me they'd upgrade my tariff through direct debit. Sounded believable took security questions and even got his 'manager' to come on the phone to me to double check everything, sounded very professional. Phoned my bank and got my card cancelled and a new one is being sent to me.

Claims to be from O2 and offering a better deal to your current existing plan with the Pay As You Go plan. I have no way to verify if the claims of being from O2 are legit and scammers are known today to call people and pretend they are companies with a phishing scam to take personal data. Happy with my current plan anyway so I hung up.

This number belongs to a company called Intelling Ltd based at Wythenshawe (Manchester) and Belfast. An O2 customer service representative confirmed that it is an O2 number, or rather that O2 uses this company to sell its services.

The Managing Director at Intelling is a chap called Phil Morgan. You can contact Phil (and I suggest you do) by calling 0161 902 3721. My advice is to continue calling that number until you are put through to Phil.

As far as I am aware, O2 is breaking the law by providing personal information to this company. This is because Intelling is not part of O2; it is a third party company. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

The bottom line is, whether illegal or not, this company (and others like it) are a bloody nuisance and the people who run them don't care. If the only way to fight back is to annoy them in kind, so be it.

So get on the blower, and give dear Philip a call. I'm sure he'll be polite and accommodating!

Had three calls from this number today. Read a lot of stuff on the web about this being a scam, so contacted O2 directly, and asked them. It is, in fact, a GENUINE call from O2, trying to get you to switch from PAYG to a contract. It is actually NOT a scam.

Same experience here. Voice call allegedly from O2 trying to get me to change from PAYG to contract. Very persistent, offering lots of inclusive stuff I don't want, for less than he reckoned I was paying for PAYG. I said I wasn't interested and hung up. Next day got another call from same number which I ignored. Nearly answered because we have family in Manchester as well.
