November 11, 2014, 2:13 pm I followed the advice for opting out of the calls. Received a text confirmation assuring me I would be removed. That last a week and they are phoning again. Asked to be removed over the phone and assured they would. If this is UNICEF then they should stop this ridiculous money-raising tactic. If this isn't UNICEF then they should still intervene as it is giving them such a bad name and I will never make a text-based charitable donation again to anyone! November 12, 2014, 4:00 pm Donated by text months ago in response to a Ewan McGregor tv appeal. The phone calls started soon afterwards, two a day for weeks, then all went quiet. At the Commonwealth Games James McAvoy made a similar appeal and I thought at the time that people should be warned about UNICEF. No doubt that since July they have pestered everyone who donated by text. Now this week they have started calling me again twice a day but as I know the number I never answer. December 12, 2014, 11:41 am I keep getting calls up to 6 times a day from this number, I donated to UNICEF and after that it started! I know there are starving children out there but these persistent phone calls is putting me off donating anything more! I have donated to them a few times but never had calls like this! January 6, 2015, 2:18 pm With these types of calls, just confirm you are who they think they're calling, allow them to say the name of the charity, and then ask them to remove you from the list. They'll remove you from the list for this charity, but you might get calls from other charities if they have your number from somewhere. If they haven't confirmed it's really you, it goes back into their system to be called again later, so you keep getting calls. I know - I used to make these calls! I missed them all as there is no mobile signal where we live but the missed call notifications flooded in whenever I went somewhere that has. They stopped spontaneously before Xmas but started again today. I had misgivings about donating in this way in the first place because of scamming. Shan't do it again. March 30, 2015, 1:31 pm Yep same here. Gave a one off donation via txt to Unicef following their TV appeal. Since then Ive been bombarded with calls. The 'sales' reps are pushy and rude. I was made to feel like a terrible human being for not wanting to donate money regularly to save poor, starving children. I asked for my details to be removed from their system, i was assured that this would happen. Obviously not. Ive learnt from my mistake and will not be donating like this again. I give what and when i can, and to whom I want at the time. The recent highly publicised case of the elderly lady who committed suicide after being pestered by charities obviously isn't bothering Unicef too much.
